What is Administrative Professionals Day?
“The main focus for APD is to recognise the vital role administrative support staff play in today’s business environment,” says Diane Bennett, the President of AAPNZ Nelson Group.
Who are administrators? They are personal assistants, secretaries, data operators, office workers, receptionists, managers, and clerks—anyone in an administrative role in an office or business. AAPNZ supports men and women in the administrative role by offering personal and professional development opportunities through training, upskilling and education on topics and areas of competence that many people do not receive during their usual course of employment. An important part of AAPNZ is the opportunity to network with ‘like-minded’ people.
The Nelson Group of AAPNZ has over 70 members employed in a wide range of industries throughout the Nelson Bays community including law firms, local government, tertiary and secondary schools, research, travel, engineering, accounting and contracting firms. The Group has general meetings once a month and workshops and seminars throughout the year.
Administrative Professionals Day 2008
The Nelson Group's Administrative Professionals Day Luncheon 2008 was held on 30 April at the Maitai Club. Over 150 guests enjoyed a superb meal, great company, a fantastic guest speaker and wonderful spot prizes.
The Guest Speaker was Margaret Fergusson, wife of the British High Commissioner. Margaret, who has worked as an administrator for various organisations overseas, shared with guests her knowledge and experiences.
There were numerous prize draws throughout the luncheon. Major prize winners were:
Travel for two to any destination within NZ donated by AirNZ: Sophia Morris.
Leather office chair donated by Office Max: Julia Cooke of NZ Immigration Concepts Ltd.
Accommodation for two people at any Millennium, Copthorne or Kingsgate motel throughout New Zealand: Marin Jones of Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology.
