I'm in the market for a new laptop - so two questions.
What do people recommend?

Should I be looking at an Ipad instead?

Laptop vs i-Pad
I have both - really depends on your requirements, but it is good to have a choice. i-Pad nice and light for portability, but laptop still has its place. I enjoy both.

Check out this article on internet...think between the writers article and the posted comments will give you enough information to make a decision - personally after reading this I would choose a laptop...many good bargains around and if you buy locally you would get backup and support.

Laptop and iPad
HP laptops are very good at the moment. I purchased one earlier this year and it's still high spec. It does everything I need for work and play.
I've also purchased a tablet but this is more for personal use as it can't run as many programs as the laptop. I like my tablet, its disconnected from my online life and I read magazines and books on it, surf recipes etc. The kids read on it too.

I think its entirely up to you and what you will do with it. If for personal use or part work there are a few things you require with features in the product you buy. There are so many different types out there with so many features that the user may not use and is included in the price. I have a HP, cost $1100 and and am happy with it. Downside, its heavy but it has served me well and still does. Ipads, if for personal use, I would purchase one, small and light and can fit into a handbag, savvy.
Laptop vs Ipad
Don't have either but my daughter loves her iPad. The only drawback so far is that you can't install FlashPlayer on iPads. Not sure what this affects.
